Selling a nice katana forged by hand with beautiful steel patterns and beautifully done koshirae ( scabbard ) its not an antique but beautifully done with traditional technique, not cheaply made.
Steel is folded steel with beautiful pattern, the blade is able to execute different cutting tasks, about 110cm in length overall, blade length is around 77cm, razor sharp. It was fitted in a Han- Tachi koshirae.
Han-tachi koshirae, or “half-tachi mounting,” is a transitional Japanese sword style that blends the ceremonial elegance of tachi fittings with the practical structure of katana mountings. It typically features tachi-style metal ornaments such as suspension rings and decorative kanagu, yet retains a katana-like hilt with a single mekugi and standard tsuka-ito wrapping. Han-tachi swords could be worn either edge-down like a tachi or edge-up like a katana, depending on the occasion. Popular from the late Muromachi to early Edo period, they were often used for ceremonies, official attire, and daimyo presentation gifts rather than battlefield combat.
the skill on making the scabbard is called Aobei-nuri, also known as “blue-shell lacquer,” is a traditional Japanese decorative technique used on sword scabbards and high-grade lacquerware. The craft combines raden (shell inlay) with makie lacquer methods. Thin iridescent pieces of abalone, pearl shell, or turban shell are cut, shaped, and carefully placed onto a lacquered wooden scabbard. These shell pieces are then sealed under multiple layers of transparent lacquer. Through repeated polishing, the shells appear to glow from within the deep black surface, creating a subtle, luminous effect.
Aobei-nuri reached its peak popularity in the Edo period and was favored by high-ranking samurai for its refined, luxurious appearance. Typical motifs include family crests, floral patterns, waves, and geometric designs. Authentic pieces are valued for their extremely thin shell inlay, smooth mirror-finish lacquer, and the vibrant blue-green iridescence revealed under changing light.
