I can’t believe that I am posting this, but some unexpected financial strain demands it. Will be very sad to see it go. .32 S&W Short + Long will chamber and fire in this gun, and the factory 8mm Lebel ammo is available from Fiocchi online, so no hand-loading setup is required for this one!
This is a very rare Naval model of the French 1892 revolver. The butt is stamped with an anchor, denoting Naval service. Of 335,000 1892’s made, only 17k were Naval models, made from 1895 to 1904. This is a first year Naval, made in 1895. The year of manufacture is on the barrel, which is handy for proving age and Antique Status eligibility as these guns were made into the mid 1920’s.
Being a military service pistol, this gun features a fantastic sight picture and robust build quality, and is one of only two Antique Status revolvers in Canada that has a modern swing out cylinder design. Time to dust off the speed loader! Lockup is rock solid with exactly zero movement on every chamber. Timing is perfect. Trigger pull is smooth in both DA and SA operation. The bore is shiny and bright with sharp rifling, and only a couple dark spots here and there. The grips are without cracks.
This gun does have various dings and scrapes, it appears to have seen action in some long-ago war. There is 40-50% of the arsenal blue remaining, and the cylinder is mostly bare. Typical for a gun that served in the salty sea air. The lanyard ring is present, I currently have it removed for measuring to make a plug. It will be reinstalled at time of sale.
