This is an original flintlock from the early 1800s.
This musket is identified on page 62 of D.W. Bailey’s British Military Long Arms 1715-1865 - a lighter, smaller version of the India Pattern Brown Bess. It is in carbine bore (.65 calibre).
The IP 1797 Sergeant's Carbine is a relatively rare arm. They were issued only to the Sergeants in the Light Infantry companies in British regiments, meaning that it is likely there were only four of these issued to each regiment of 1,000 men. This one bears no regimental markings, but does have the storekeeper's mark still visible on the butt.
It functions as it should, and I have successfully shot it. I have added repro front and rear sling swivels and an original bayonet appropriate for a carbine. Some photos attached and additional photos can be made available if desired.
