Manufactured by the Imperial Tula Arsenal in 1885, this Berdan II (Model 1870) is chambered in .42 Berdan (10.75×58mmR). Designed by American inventor Hiram Berdan, it was the standard service rifle of the Imperial Russian Army before the introduction of the Mosin-Nagant in 1891.

The barrel is clearly marked “ИМПЕРАТОРСКIЙ ТУЛЬСКIЙ ОРУЖЕЙНЫЙ ЗАВОДЪ 1885” (Imperial Tula Arms Factory 1885) with factory number “No.5663.” The bolt is marked “13442” in two locations, consistent with late arsenal reassembly numbering. The receiver itself bears no serial marking, as commonly seen on arsenal-serviced examples.

Features a full-length walnut stock with field wear and patina consistent with age, an adjustable ladder rear sight graduated to 1600 arshins, and original iron fittings. The bore shows strong, well-defined rifling with a bright interior — excellent for a 19th-century black powder rifle.

A historically significant Imperial Russian firearm, representing the transitional era before the Mosin-Nagant, and an authentic example of late Tsarist military craftsmanship.
